Diopter Split

A split diopter is standard diopter element is precision-cut in half and mounted in the ring. It creates a shot with two planes of focus rather than one. Makes a sharp image of the foreground (captured through the diopter) and background (captured through the uncovered half of your camera’s lens).
Close-up lens attachment that, shorten close-focusing distance of lenses by shortening the focal length of the optical system. The higher the strength the shorter the focal length and shorter the focusing distance. The strength is given as reciprocal of focal length in meter. That means a +1 diopter puts the focus plane to 1 m.

Application
Look of deep focus without stepping down iris. Highlights the relationship of main subject with an object in the background without stepping down the aperture. Ideal for shots in the dark or indoor, when getting more light is difficult. Split screen is also popular for storytelling. To attract attention of the viewer to an object in the background, while the main scene remains in the foreground. Can be used to provoke a certain mood unconsciously for the viewer.
