The filter locks the visible light up to 715 nm - corresponds to Kodak Wratten 88A or Hoya R72

A very interesting area is called infrared photography both in black and white as well as in color, false color photography. However, in both cases, filter is needed to obtain the desired effects and results. The right exposure requires experience and test series, as the time of weather conditions also plays a major role. For black and white photography and technical scientific photography, especially filters are indispensable, which only pass the invisible infrared content.

Tips for digital infrared photography:

Whether a digital camera is ir-sensitive, you can test with an IR remote control. On the web instructions can be found. The IR focus point is a bit further away than the visible light. With screwed filter, the white balance, automatically or better manually takes place. Digital cameras and camcorders usually have an IR cut filter from their image sensor. In some camera models, there is still a significant residual transmission in the infrared area. Exactly this gap the infrared filters take advantage of it. Thus, very infrared typical images will succeed when the visible light is locked. Choosing the image section and infrared-related focusing occur before screwing on the filter. The image program optimizes the IR photos: Increase contrast automatically or in the histogram, change color image in SW or play with individual color channels, the red channel remains to maximum. Whether digital or analogue implemented. Infrared photography has always been an experimental character.

Tips for recording with IR filter:

Motive with a lot of sunlight have the highest IR share
Use a tripod because of the long exposure times
Set the image section before setting up the filter.
Due to the changed sharpening point in advance, use the autofocus manually on IR-indes or by the IR filter
Avoid open aperture. AF sensors can be partially focused on IR.
Often the exposure must be strongly raised. Use the +/- correction or manual mode for further overexposure
In the B / W mode, you can see the correct exposure to the camera display, in color mode on histogram displays. This is especially true for the red channel.
Instead of the elaborate signal processing with RAW data, the use of the JPEG image format is also possible

Tips for image editing:

For brilliant B / W playback, use your program to convert to Lab mode and only use the L channel or only the red channel
Since the contrast scope of the excellent image data is often too small and the whole picture becomes deep red due to the camera-internal clearing, simply put the black spot and white point in its image editing software.
